History Repeats: L'histoire se répète
#232 An update on the US Indices: Nasdaq, S&P500 and DJIA.
The expression “l'histoire se répète,” in French, translating to “history repeats itself,” points out how people frequently fall into recurring patterns of behavior and their outcomes throughout history. This idea suggests that events from the past can surface again in the present and future in various guises. By exploring historical trends and the choices made by individuals and communities, we can gain insights into how our decisions impact the course of time.
Pluto last entered Aquarius between 1778 and 1798, approximately 240 years ago. We can already observe echoes of Pluto's previous passage through Aquarius evident today. In my 2025 Stock Market Outlook, I noted that the year 2025 aligns with the independence of the USA in 1776, according to a Gann yearly chart. Interestingly, at the start of 2025, a prominent figure like Elon Musk is exerting significant influence on X (formerly known as Twitter) concerning British politics. He has also used his platform to support far-right politics in Germany.
Historically, Germans played a crucial role in the American Revolution, and in 1775, Germany was deeply divided. Is history repeating itself?
I find it intriguing that Elon Musk mirrors the behavior of influential figures from 240 years ago.
There are many other examples, such as the French Revolution in 1789, which arose from social injustice and economic hardship. The recent fall of the regime in Syria is another indication that we are on the brink of a new era, occurring under the same influence of Pluto entering Aquarius.
Throughout history, societies have experienced cycles of rise and fall. Influential leaders often demonstrated their power and boosted their egos by building towers; the taller the tower or the greater the number of towers, the mightier the city or country was perceived to be. When these displays of strength were insufficient, the powerful frequently resorted to greed, seeking to expand their control by invading other territories.
This pattern continues in today's world. One could easily substitute the word "towers" with "rockets." Instead of distributing wealth among workers, prominent figures like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are investing their fortunes in space exploration. Similarly, the U.S. President-elect, Donald Trump, is again considering extending American influence over regions like Greenland or Panama. At the same time, the Russian President aims to enlarge his territory in Ukraine and potentially other countries to showcase his power. Eventually, this greed will lead to a downfall, as we have seen with the British Empire that crumbled away.
Economic trends also reveal similar patterns of greed and fear. Boom-bust cycles illustrate how greed can lead to significant problems. The Great Depression of the 1930s and the financial crisis in 2009, among other instances, remind us of the risks associated with speculation and economic inequality that persist today. Despite a greater understanding of economics, the desire for quick profits often traps societies in cycles of greed and irresponsibility.
This is why I study stock market cycles. Every 20 years, a new generation enters the stock market, often making the same mistakes I made at that age. What happened in the past may echo in the future. Looking at planetary cycles may help to find similar patterns from the past that may repeat again.
There are several valuable cycles to consider, such as the 7-year cycle of the Biblical Shemitah years, which has accurately predicted market panics in the past—sometimes down to the exact day. Another important cycle is the 60-year generational cycle, during which most of the planets that our weekdays are named after align in the same part of the zodiac. This alignment may lead to similar stock market patterns as seen in the past.
To kick off the New Year, I am revisiting the charts from my previous analysis. I have updated the charts and added some extra annotations in this post. Additionally, I evaluated the planetary transits through the zodiac for 2025, highlighting periods of strength or weakness in the stock market based on these transits.
